Black Mountain K9 Happenings
Black Mountain K9 Happenings
Dec. 11th-14th2025, Black Mountain K9 and 4Corners K9 SAR joined together for disaster training at the SDF National Training Center. It was a jammed packed couple of days with amazing training opportunities. Four of BMK9's handlers and one flanker were able to attend with 5 K9's. 4Corners K9 brought 3 K9's, two handlers, and one overwatch. We were able to expose the K9s to simulated wrecked train cars, rubble pile, collapsed freeway, and what SDF calls Search City. Search City contains three houses that simulate various disasters, several false front buildings, vehicles, even a small grocery store. It was an amazing experience, and we were so happy to be able to train with 4Corners who we often deploy on missions with. The dogs were not only exposed to working in tight crowded areas full of distractions, but the handlers were exposed to the many different ways odor carries in buildings and vehicles. We returned late Sunday night, so we would be able to attend the gracious offer to fundraise at Black Bear Diner in Bullhead City on Monday. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. We appreciate your support.
Black Mountain K9 was honored to assist 4 Corners K9 SAR again in October. We worked several MMIP cases and also assisted the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.
Black Mountain K9 was honored to return to assist 4 Corners K9 SAR with their MMIP cases. We worked Sept. 14th and 15th on 3 different cases assisting 4 Corners K9 SAR and the Navajo Nation Police.
Black Mountain K9 was also able to get tracks on another 160 acres for our mission here in Ft. Mohave. We are pleased that the weather has started to cool, and we are able to get back out to cover this search area.
Black Mountain K9 returned August 2025 to assist 4 Corners K9 SAR. We are honored to support them with our K9's in their mission. We will be returning again in September to assist.
Black Mountain K9 was able to return to assist 4 Corners K9 SAR May 23rd-28th, 2025. We were able to assist in several more MMIP cases. BMK9 was honored to once again be able to assist 4CK9SAR and the Navajo and Hopi Nations. We look forward to returning again.
Black Mountain K9 SAR had the opportunity to assist 4 Corners K9 SAR April 10th-12th, 2025. We were able to help 4CK9SAR in covering 5 massive areas for 4 different missing person cases. It was an honor to be able to assist 4CK9SAR and the Navajo Nation. BMK9 reached out to 4CK9SAR last year when they saw that 4CK9SAR had lost their beloved K9 Trigger. It took time to arrange for the endeavor, but we were so honored to be able to go assist. We had 2 K9 handlers, 3 K9's, and two flankers make the 7 hour trip over to assist. 4CK9SAR stated it perfectly - "This collaboration wasn't just about search and rescue- it was about showing up for one another, no matter the distance, the obstacles, or the terrain." We look forward to assisting them again in the future and building this relationship with another team who is dedicated to bringing hope and help to families.
-Hank the Tank and Indy traveled to Oregon in June, to do some training and for Hank the Tank to recertify in Wilderness Air Scent. Congratulations Hank the Tank.
-Black Mountain K9 SAR also just had their 1st Benefit Car Show sponsored by CAL-RANCH in Bullhead City, AZ on April 6th, 2025. We appreciate everyone who entered their cars in the show, bought 50/50 tickets, and who bought raffle tickets. You all made the event a success.
-Several of the BMK9's recently participated in the Rattlesnake Avoidance training with Get Rattled. This is a very valuable training to keep our K9's safe.
April 18th, 19th, and 20th we had Joe and Deb Hurlburt of Idaho Search Dogs come to give our HRD handlers a training seminar. The 25th, 26th, and 27th Joe and Deb Hurlburt of Idaho Search Dogs gave us a trailing seminar for our trailing handlers. We were so very excited to have Joe and Deb Hurlburt come to give these seminars. We had 5 HRD handlers take the HRD seminar. They all learned so much, the K9's and the handlers. We had 3 K9 teams take the trailing seminar, and so much was learned in this seminar also. We worked through some very trying weather with high winds, cold and overcast, and hot, but we took the opportunity to train the dogs in environments often found out here in the Arizona desert.
